For the months of November and December 2023, Fresh Food Weekly will be testing a new variation of the Fresh Food Weekly program called: ‘Fresh Food Weekly Meal Kits’. Not only will we be trying-out these meal kits with program recipients, we're also going to be selling these kits to the general public for a "for profit" rate in an effort to raise funds for the Fresh Food Weekly program.
I’ve always wanted to do more complex recipes for our program's recipients but could never budget the ingredients needed if I had to buy a whole thing of flour, and sugar, and each spice and herb in the recipe, etc. Even at the smallest quantities available in stores and with a discount, it just wouldn’t ever work financially. It also would have made deliveries even heavier.
By packaging ingredients into smaller quantities, we can create meal kits within our budget. So, on November 14th, we're doing a Crispy Chicken Parmesan meal kit for Fresh Food Weekly program recipients, as well as for anyone else who'd like to try it out, and support a great program at the same time.
Crispy Chicken Parmesan Meal Kit
This Crispy Chicken Parmesan recipe was featured as the main dish in our very first 'Healthy Cooking Workshop for Kids' this past summer, and it was such a huge hit, we needed to do it as our first meal kit recipe too! This meal kit costs $35.00 and includes:
2 boneless chicken breasts from Costco (and packaged into individual packages and labeled at Thorganic Farms in Thornton, Ont.)
1 spices packet (includes salt, pepper, and chopped onion flakes)
Flour
Breadcrumbs
Fresh soft mozzarella cheese
Grated parmigiano reggiano cheese
Fresh basil
A dozen farm fresh eggs
A jar of 796ml Passata

The DEADLINE to submit your order is: Sunday, Nov. 5th by 11:59PM EST.
Fresh Food Weekly meal kits will be available for pickup at Countryside United Church in Thornton, Ont., on Tuesday, Nov. 14th, 2023, between 3:30PM and 5:30PM.
These meal kits are also available for delivery to addresses in Barrie or Innisfil only, for $20. Please note, a portion of the delivery fee will be given to volunteer drivers to help offset their costs.
