Real Deal Black Friday: Give the Gift of Giving this Christmas

Updated: Nov 24, 2023

That's right! This year, Fresh Food Weekly will be delivering our Christmas turkey dinner meal boxes to low-income families on Christmas Eve this year!

A couple of years ago, I actually did some volunteering with another charity on Christmas Eve because it was my first Christmas Eve without my daughter. I wanted to keep my mind busy and I found it to be very rewarding, and so this year, we're going to give Christmas Eve a little more meaning and deliver Christmas Cheer on the night before Christmas.

Giving the Gift of Giving This Christmas

During a time when food prices are the highest they've ever been, it's hard not to think about all the families who can't afford a turkey dinner for Christmas this year.

That's why Fresh Food Weekly is giving you the opportunity to provide practical support to families in crisis by sponsoring them with a turkey dinner meal box on Christmas Eve this year.

Not only that, you can give the gift of giving this Christmas by giving your sponsored meal box receipt in the form of a thoughtful Christmas card and voice note as a present for friends and loved ones. You'll receive a mailed Christmas card for each sponsored turkey dinner meal box and each card includes a QR code for a personalized voice from a different program recipient. Cards will be sent in early December. To sponsor a low-income family, please visit our online store.

Meal Box Items December 2023

Fresh Food Weekly is planning to deliver 100 meal boxes on Christmas Eve and are raising funds to cover the costs of the turkeys, which will be around $3,500.00. Once enough money is raised to cover the cost of the turkeys, we can then start giving out more meal boxes to more families!

To sponsor a low-income family with a turkey or a Christmas turkey dinner meal box, it's $35 for a turkey and $60 for the turkey meal box. Meal boxes are valued at $108 each, and include the following locally-sourced items:

  • Whole turkey, Farm Boy

  • Loaf of Bread, Fox's Bakery & Deli

  • Stove Top turkey stuffing mix

  • 2 lbs onions, Dominion Farm Produce Ltd.

  • 1 lb [salted or unsalted] Butter, Alliston Creamery

  • Ocean Spray whole berry cranberry sauce

  • Club House turkey gravy mix

  • 2 lbs carrots, Cookstown Greens

  • 3 lb bag of apples, Four Wheel Farm

  • 4 L milk, Kawartha Dairy

  • 60 ml Fresh Olive Oil, Olive Oil Co. Inc.
