Mega Christmas Food Drive
Fresh Food Weekly is pleased to announce that we've been selected as one of this year's recipients of the Lowe's Canada Heroes Campaign!
The Lowe's Canada Heroes Campaign takes place throughout the month of September, and each store from the RONA Corporate Network raises funds to support a non-profit organization of their choice. At the end of the campaign, Lowe's Canada matches 50 percent of all donations, up to $2,000 per store.
Since Fresh Food Weekly is not yet a registered charity, the Barrie Food Bank has graciously sponsored us by allowing Fresh Food Weekly to use their charitable registration number in order to receive the funds.
The Lowe's Canada Heroes Campaign exists to support their communities by bringing inspiring projects to life. By raising funds to support the mission or a specific project of non-profit organizations that, through their programs and actions, are true heroes in their communities.
Last year, Home & Garden RONA Barrie selected Youth Haven Barrie and raised $6,470.17, and Lowe's Barrie selected Habitat for Humanity Huronia and they raised $10,027.73. This year, Fresh Food Weekly is partnering with the Women & Children's Shelter of Barrie to host a 'Mega Christmas Food Drive', which will take place on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. This food drive will provide single moms who've resided at the Women & Children's Shelter of Barrie at some point in time with more than enough food to have a feast on Christmas.
One More Reason to Leave the Abuse
The purpose of the 'Mega Christmas Food Drive' is to give these women one more reason not to go back to their abusers at Christmas. When money is tight, sometimes moms can think that maybe they should stay in an abusive relationship because at least their children are being fed. This food drive will alleviate the pressures of staying with an abusive partner throughout the Christmas holidays by providing them with enough fruits, vegetables, dairy, breads and meat to serve a feast for their family and friends! No one should have to live in fear, especially not throughout the Christmas holidays. Fresh Food Weekly wants to empower women to fight for their basic human rights - freedom from abuse and a life worth living. We want to show them the love that has been withheld from them and we want them to know they are valuable, and that we do care about their well-being.
I want to thank the Barrie RONA store for selecting Fresh Food Weekly as their recipient for the 2021 Lowe's Canada Heroes Campaign. We are thrilled to be able to give some peace to many single mothers this Christmas and it's all thanks to you!
